What is it and what does it do? Frequently asked questions.

  • The Rotatone device is module that can be installed in a dial telephone to enable it to dial out on a Virgin Media, Telewest or TalkTalk line. It is a pulse/tone convertor
  • Why do I need it?  Most Virgin Media, Telewest and many TalkTalk lines will only support tone (push button) dialling.

  • I use a BT line. Do I need a Rotatone?  No... You do not need a Rotatone.
  • I use a SKY box on my BT line. Do I need a Rotatone? No... You do not need a Rotatone.
  • How much does it cost? I can supply and fit the device in one of my telephones for an additional £35.
  • Can it be fitted to my old telephone? I can also supply and fit it to your telephone for £35 subject to inspection. This does not include charges for any repair or conversion work that may also be required. See the repair or conversions page for further details.
  • Will the dial still work?  Yes....The original dial is still used in the usual way.
  • Will it spoil the look of my old telephone? No...It is fitted inside and cannot be seen.
  • Does the telephone still ring as it should?... Yes
  • Will I need a mains adaptor to power the telephone? No....The telephone is powered by the telephone line.
  • Which telephones can it be fitted to?  See the pictures below. If you cannot see your telephone listed, please call me on the number below. I can probably help.
  • I want to use an old telephone on an office system, can you help? If your system is compatible with an ordinary domestic push button telephone then the Rotatone ought to enable your old dial telephone to work. Please call me on the number below for more information.
  • I don't use Virgin Media, Telewest or TalkTalk but my telephone still doesn't dial out. What is wrong? There could be a fault with the telephone or line connections. See my repairs page or call the number below.
  • My answering machine starts as I am dialling....Why? Some answering machines can start working when a dial telephone is being used. You can obtain a different answering machine, or have a Rotatone fitted.

  • Can you supply the Rotatone as a kit so that I can fit it myself? No....Fitting a Rotatone device is not for the fainthearted as some technical knowledge and usually the ability to solder is required. Therefore I do not sell the Rotatone separately, nor do I offer any advice on its installation.

I can fit the Rotatone device to:-

 Candlestick,

232 series With or without a bell set

I am investigating more telephones and will list them here as soon as I have worked out a suitable Rotatone conversion method.

If you wish to place an order, or have an enquiry, please read all below.

Please call me (Gavin Payne) by telephone if you wish to place an order for a telephone, spare parts, or have an enquiry.  I can usually be reached 9.00am to 5.45pm any day, including weekends. Calls in the evening are not appreciated and could make me very grumpy. The number is 01245 400601.

I am in the shop most Saturday and Sunday mornings between 10.00 and 12.00. These are the only times I am in the shop for the sale of spare parts, conversions and repairs.  Conversions and repairs can often be carried out while you wait.

If you have a telephone that you want to know more about, or have it repaired or converted, please have it right next to you when you call. Please also have a selection of small flat bladed screwdrivers to hand.
I do not give advice for DIY repairs or conversions or valuations of any kind over the telephone or by email. Please bring the telephone to my shop for assessment, but always call me first before bringing it in.
