The candlestick telephone as used here in The UK is based on the
American Western Electric pattern. They date from the turn of the
century to the early 1930's.
These telephones
were made between 1956 and 1966 in Antwerp
Belgium at The Bell Telephone Works. There are several other colours
and models in this section.
All my telephones are original and are ready to use in the
UK.
Most can be described as pristine. But they are old. There will be
signs of wear and tear. Please read my
FAQ
page.

Will your telephones work in countries other than the
UK?
IN MOST CASES, YES....But Telephone
technology round the world is constantly evolving. I cannot be sure that they
will work in all cases. Generally the worst that could happen is that the telephone
will not dial out. It should however ring, and accept incoming calls.
My telephones are
converted for use in the UK. I can supply information with the telephone to
enable a local electrician to fit a suitable cord so it should work work in your
country.
Telephones for use in the USA
and other countries using a similar connector, are supplied with a suitable
adaptor.
Telephones supplied for use overseas are sold subject to the
provisions contained in the preceding two paragraphs.
Availability etc
All the telephones shown on this web site are "in stock". This does not
necessarily mean that they are restored and converted ready for sale. A tip for personal callers to the shop.
The best selection of telephones can be seen after
re-stocking on a Saturday morning.
As I usually only restore on an "as required basis", there may be some
delay before any telephone is actually available for dispatch or collection.
All telephones are priced individually based on age, condition and
features. Prices shown on this web site are only shown as a guide, and are based
on the customer collecting the telephone from my shop.
In the UK most of our telephones were made by a cartel of companies
manufacturing to a common GPO specification. In most cases parts were
interchangeable, one telephone to another. This led to a uniformity of design,
and in my opinion, stifled progress over the years.
For example, some parts used in dials in the 1920's are transposable with parts
from the 1980's.
The net result is that, until the 1970's the basic range of telephones produced
here in volume, was very limited.
Generally early UK stock is limited to the
Candlestick, 200, and 300 series, but check out the "Other Telephones"
page every now and then for specials.
Carriage, insurance etc are all charged extra on a pro-rata basis.
I strongly recommend that you contact me first before making a journey to see

Please call me (Gavin Payne) by telephone if you wish to place
an order for a telephone, spare parts, or have an enquiry. I can usually
be reached 9.00am to 5.45pm any day, including weekends. Calls in the
evening are not appreciated and could make me very grumpy. The number is
01245 400601.
I am in the shop
most Saturday and Sunday mornings between 10.00 and 12.00. These are the
only times I am in the shop for the sale of spare parts, conversions and
repairs.
Conversions and repairs can often be carried out while you wait.
If you have a telephone that you want to know more about, or
have it
repaired or converted, please have it right next to you when you call.
Please also have a selection of small flat bladed screwdrivers to hand. I do not give advice for DIY repairs or conversions or valuations of any
kind over the telephone or by email. Please bring the telephone to my shop
for assessment, but always call me first before bringing it in.
