DIALS, PARTS AND
LABELS
Prices quoted for dials are on the basis of a
serviceable exchange unit being offered. A £20 surcharge is payable in
addition for
outright purchase. Those offered are reconditioned to the same standards
applied to my own telephones.
The dial is almost completely stripped down. It is degreased and cleaned.
The gears are inspected and cleaned. The main shaft is sparingly lubricated
as is the spring and slipping clutch. The governor is cleaned and polished
as necessary. The dial is then re-assembled and set up for correct speed and
percentage break, (Mark-space ratio)
using purpose made test equipment. The dial switches are set up and cleaned
using a diamond spatula.
I can often recondition your own dial; the
same charges apply.
I have a
very few type 10 dials fitted with a black oxidised finger plate, body, and
type 8 (small) label holder. A genuine type 8 is extremely rare, so this
might be the next best thing. It looks like the type 8 dials as fitted to
candlestick telephones in the early 1920's. These are assembled from genuine
original parts. No exchange dial is required.

I have workshop facilities at Battlesbridge and stock some spares in the shop.
Spares are available by mail order, but are subject to a £15 minimum order charge.
Most spares are second-hand and vary in quality from "as seen" to
"reconditioned".
"Reconditioned" means a part which has been overhauled to working
condition. It does not necessarily mean overhauled to new condition.
All spares are subject to availability. Please enquire about any parts not
listed, as I may have them.
I endeavour to keep to the above prices, but they are liable to change without
notice
I prefer payment by all the
usual Credit/Debit Cards.
If you wish to place an order,
or have an enquiry, please read all of this section before trying to contact me.
I much prefer it you to call me (Gavin Payne) by telephone if
you wish to place an order, or have an enquiry. I can be reached during
normal office hours seven days a week. Calls in the evening are not appreciated
and could make me very grumpy. The number is 01245 400601, or if calling
from outside the United Kingdom (44)1245 400601.

If you have a telephone in your possession that you want to know
more about, or have repaired or converted, please have it right next to you when
you call. It is not sufficient just to have a note of any markings or to rely on
memory. It may be useful to have a selection of small flat bladed screwdrivers
to hand.
